The Best Dog Friendly Wineries in Napa

Spread the love

Knowing that our beloved pup Wallace was coming with us on our recent California road trip, we needed to find the best dog friendly wineries in Napa. Like much of California, Napa is a great spot to bring your trusty four-legged companion. This list is the culmination of my full and rather admittedly, pretty extensive, research on Napa wineries that allow dogs.

Full disclosure: while we know a little about wine, we are far from wine snobs. So, ensuring we were tasting the absolute best wine that Napa Valley is known for was not as much a priority for us, or our budget. But all the places we visited had good wine that we enjoyed drinking.

If you’re local to Northern California and on the fence about bringing your pup or leaving them with a sitter, you can also check out my guide on inexpensive Napa wine tastings, as there are some wineries with cheaper tasting fees that don’t allow dogs.

Best Dog Friendly Wineries in Napa

Migration Winery

Price: $55 per person for a seated tasting
Location: 1451 Stanly Ln, Napa, CA 94559 (15 minutes from downtown Napa)

Migration is the ultimate dog-friendly winery in Napa. I don’t think Wallace has lived a better day in his entire life than his day at Migration (it was up there for me as well, to be honest). Migration offers Barkuterie Boards for $15, which I almost didn’t spring for but am so glad I did. He was pampered with all the treats while we enjoyed the wines and was given a water bowl to cleanse his palate between the delicacies.

The tasting itself is held in a beautiful, light, and airy outdoor/indoor space with plenty of room for Wallace to chill on the cool cement. Migration is known for their Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs, and the wines were so good we ended up buying a couple of bottles to take home. Wallace got lots of love from the attentive staff and fellow guests.

By the end of our tasting, he had a full post-Thanksgiving dinner belly.

Dogs require an advanced reservation and are not allowed on the furniture (which is lovely and super comfortable, if anyone was wondering).

Tamber Bey Vineyards

Price: $50 per person for a tasting
Location: 1251 Tubbs Ln, Calistoga, CA 94515 (42 minutes from downtown Napa)

Tamber Bey Vineyards, located in the Calistoga region, provides a distinctive blend of luxurious wine experiences and equestrian charm. Its dog-friendly vineyard has beautifully landscaped grounds, a cute barn, and an actual equestrian facility where you can enjoy the horses. It’s a beautiful pastoral setting that stands out compared to other wineries closer to the heart of Napa.

Tamber Bey is known for its Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot and is generally considered a highly rated winery if you’re into fancier wines. Leashed dogs are welcome to join you for a tasting in its outdoor seating area; just make sure you have an advanced reservation. Your pup will likely get love and pets from the staff, or the owner themselves.

In full transparency, the last time we brought our pup anywhere near a farm, he had the time of his life watching them. And by watching them, I mean yanking on his leash to go and say hi to them. So in the interest of preserving our own peaceful Napa experience with our part-herding dog mutt, we skipped this one this time. If your dog has any more chill than ours—which is highly likely—it could be an excellent afternoon.

Calistoga is a bit out of the way from downtown Napa, but if you’re coming from the north as part of a 7-day California road trip, then it’s actually a great option on your way to Napa for the evening.

Pine Ridge Vineyards

Price: Minimum purchase of two bottles (prices start at $45)
Location: 5901 Silverado Trail, Napa, CA 94558 (15 minutes from downtown Napa)

If you’re looking to enjoy the vibes of Napa but don’t necessarily need a tasting, the Garden Seating Bottle Service is a great option that can be affordable too if you’re planning on purchasing at least one bottle of wine from Napa. Pups are allowed to join you on the terrace for this 90-minute reservation.

Wallace was given a water bowl, multiple treats, pets, and a stylish Pine Ridge bandana. He also found several shady spots to sleep while we enjoyed our wine.

Pine Ridge can be a great mid-day option, especially because you can bring your own food to this experience. Grabbing some charcuterie supplies from the local grocery store can be a big budget saver.

Frog’s Leap Winery

Price: $40 per person for a Garden Tasting
Location: 8815 Conn Creek Rd, Rutherford, CA 94573 (22 minutes from downtown Napa)

Frog’s Leap is one of the best dog-friendly wineries in Napa, and the Garden Bar tasting experience scores a perfect 10/10 on the vibes. The Garden Bar is a quintessential English garden retreat, featuring a serene oasis of climbing vines, charming trellises, and sweeping views of the lush vineyards. Situated next to a tranquil pond, a thriving vegetable garden, a rustic barn, and a cozy chicken coop, the setting is both picturesque and inviting. Known for its commitment to organic and sustainable practices, Frog’s Leap employs dry-farming techniques that preserve the land’s natural integrity.

The Garden Bar is also dog-friendly, adding to the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. The owners ask that dogs remain on a leash and not pee in the vegetable garden (a very fair request). Their own dog Silvia roams the property and might give you a wag of acknowledgment.

During our visit, we enjoyed local goat cheese topped with dried herbs freshly picked from their garden, enhancing the lovely experience. And also giving you a reason to make sure your dog doesn’t pee in the vegetable garden.

Truly, Frog’s Leap achieves a flawless 10/10 on the vibes.

Tres Sabores

Price: $60 per person for a tasting
Location: 1620 S Whitehall Ln, St Helena, CA 94574 (27 minutes from downtown Napa)

Tres Sabores is a highly rated women-owned boutique winery that is known for its Zinfandels and Petite Syrahs. The name “Tres Sabores,” which means “Three Flavors” in Spanish, reflects the winery’s commitment to crafting wines that embody a balance of three distinct elements: the terroir, the varietal characteristics, and the winemaking techniques.

Doggie guests are allowed to join the 90-minute outdoor tasting. No more than two dog guests will be allowed on the property at any given time, and a reservation is required for your pup (and its humans, for that matter). Dogs must be on a leash at all times. In case of rain, doggy friends cannot be accommodated due to limited indoor seating.

Chimney Rock Winery

Price: $70 per person for the Taste of Terroir
Location: 5350 Silverado Trail, Napa, CA 94558 (13 minutes from downtown Napa)

Rounding out the list of dog-friendly wineries in Napa is Chimney Rock Winery. If you’re a wine lover or trying to impress a wine lover, then doing a tasting focused on the bold red wines that Napa Valley is known for is a great choice. Chimney Rock Winery is renowned for its elegant and refined approach to winemaking, specializing in premium Cabernet Sauvignons.

The winery’s striking architecture, featuring a distinctive stone chimney that gives it its name, complements the stunning panoramic views of the surrounding vineyards and rolling hills. Dogs are allowed but must be on a leash and with their owners at all times. The tastings are on their shady patio, so you shouldn’t have to worry about your pup getting too warm in the Napa sunshine.

Best Napa Dog Friendly Hotels

Hotel Napa Valley

Ascend Collection’s Hotel Napa Valley is a boutique hotel nestled in the heart of downtown Napa where we stayed with Mr. Wallace. It is a pretty charming hotel with some lovely historic character and curb appeal.

Wallace enjoyed sharing the king-sized bed with us and cooling down in the huge bathroom. It was located just a short walking distance from downtown Napa in an adorable neighborhood. Book your stay here.

Wine Country Inn & Cottages

If you’re interested in staying in the vineyards instead of downtown Napa, Wine Country Inn & Cottages is another great dog-friendly hotel option in Napa Valley. The inn offers a serene and cozy atmosphere, perfect for those looking to experience the region’s picturesque vineyards. Book your stay here.

Wallace has now gotten to explore dog-friendly wineries in Napa as well as dog-friendly wineries in Temecula in Southern California. Next on our list is exploring dog-friendly wineries in Paso Robles, but to be honest, the pampering he got at Migration will be pretty hard to top.

In summary, exploring Napa Valley with your furry friend can be a delightful experience, and finding the perfect dog-friendly winery in Napa can make the adventure even more enjoyable. As you plan your next getaway, consider the above Napa dog-friendly wineries to ensure both you and your four-legged friend have a great visit. Cheers to great wine, stunning views, and the joy of sharing it all with your cherished pet!
